Where the road ends, the road begins again.

Before:

For me, the road of the Ph.D. candidate is not flat and wide. It’s been worse in recent years.
My younger son was diagnosed with ADHD, so I decided to concentrate on him for three years and had to close many of the projects I was working on, and after those three years, I was very sick because I had a problem with my immune system.
After recovery from the immune problem at the beginning of this year, I coincidentally, really by chance, I got to know Qiskit. Well, at this moment, I nearly gave up my Ph.D. candidate road.

I attended “May4Challenge” at home alone, and it was an inspiring experience about “being together.” Many passionate attendees like to share their knowledge, and we have exciting four days with live discussion. With active attendees, I forgot that I was alone.

At that time, I dream of becoming of Qiskit advocate. And in September, I finally become Qiskit Advocate!!

After: My first month of Qiskit Advocate

After becoming a Qiskit advocate, I met my supervisor — Prof. Wonho Jhe and told him that I am interested in the quantum computer, so I want to study more about it.
My lab currently focuses on condensed matter research now, so my supervisor gives me a chance to co-supervise my Ph. D. thesis with an eminent quantum information researcher in Korea.

And this is the result. I became a research assistant at KIAS.

My new supervisor — Prof. Jaewan Kim — told me that doing interesting things and writing a Ph. D. thesis is different, so he asks me to study fundamental things about quantum information. I’m just an old and funny student, and he’s such an eminent scholar in this field so that maybe he’s having a hard time because of me. :)

After being a Qiskit advocate, I am attending Qiskit global hackathon as a mentor now. I suggested one funny project and looking forward hackathon start.

The road less traveled

At the beginning of this year, I nearly gave up my Ph.D. candidate life. When I became a qiskit advocate, a reversal took place, so I am currently receiving thesis guidance from the most prominent quantum information researcher in Korea and attending the global qiskit hackathon as a mentor.

All these things happen in just a month!

As a Qiskit advocate, I dream of holding “Qiskit hackathon Korea,” which is my next challenge. For me, there was a luck to know about Qiskit, but I hope more Korean student can meet the Qiskit without luck — more easily.

“If we know exactly where we’re going, exactly how to get there, and exactly what we’ll see along the way, we won’t learn anything. ”
Scott Peck

I don’t know what will happen further, also no idea now. But I believe that all of this moment is the gift of my life, and I will learn from every moment it gives to me.
